- it occurred in the prison when it was time for Mariam to be executed for the murder of Rasheed , the Taliban's are involved with this matter , the Taliban's had no mercy on Mariam as she is a woman who had killed her mehr .
- Mariam wished for so much in those final moments. Yet as she closed her eyes, it was not regret any longer but a sensation of abundant peace . that washed over her. She thought of her entry into this world, the harami child of a lowly villager and unintended thing, a pitiable regrettable accident. A weed , and yet she was leaving the world as a woman who had loved and been loved back. She was leaving it as a friend, a companion. A mother. A person of consequence at last. No it is not so , Mariam though she should die this way. Not so bad”( Hosseini 370).
- Here we see that even though Mariam faced a tragic ,and very hard life. She still sacrificed her life for Laila children, she was willing to face danger, and risks just to secure Laila and her children already proves that Mariam did a maternal sacrifice despite circumstances ,and struggles that Mariam had endured , Mariam still took a motherly role to protect even though they are not her biological children because Mariam had always supported, and cared for Laila's children well-being since she sees them as like part of responsibilities of her being a mother figure to them to protect them from Taliban's, and Mariam always looked for someone to call her own family therefore it was an accomplishment of her being executed just to see Aziza, and Laila live another day, and this connect to my thematic message because in this society mariam had to choose a difficult for Laila's children and Laila since its part of her motherly fulfillment to break the cycle of oppression and end it for all.
