  • Mystery (Stone Gathering)
  • Get More Stones!
  • OK!
  • Tension(Who has the Mark)
  • Who has the mark?
  • Surprise (When Tessi Gets Picked)
  • Im telling you it wasn't fair!
  • Tessi has the mark!
  • The scene I chose to use for mystery was the part of the boys gathering the stones where it states "Bobby Martin has already stuffed his pockets full of stones, and the other boys soon followed his example, selecting the smoothest and roundest stones; Bobby and Harry Jones and Dickie Delacroix-the villagers pronounced his name 'Dekkacroy" -eventually made a great pile of stones one corner of the square and guarded it against the raids of other boys". This shows mystery because it gets you thinking, what are the boys collecting the stones for. And, this also shows you that what's about to happen is really important to them for them to be collecting stones and guarding them.
  • (Tessi Gets' Stoned)
  • Kill Her!!!
  • The part in the story that shows the most tension is probably the scene where it states "All right, fellows." For a minute, no one moved, and then all the slips of paper were opened. Suddenly, all the women began to speak at once, saying, "Who is it?," "Who's got it?," This shows a lot of tension in the story because even the people in the story don't know what's going to happen like us. And something that causes a bit more tension is the fact that Mrs. Delacroix wants Tessi to get it out of everyone else. You could also say there was tension when their family got picked because she says that it's not fair kind of noting to the fact that drawing was a scam.
  • Surprise is shown in the story when it states ""Tessie," Mr. Summers said. There was a pause, and then Mr. Summers looked at Bill Hutchinson, and Bill unfolded his paper and showed it. It was blank. "It's Tessie," Mr. Summers said, and his voice was hushed. "Show us the paper, Bill."" This is a factor of surprise because no one thought that it would have been Tessie. So when she gets picked its a surprise factor to her family and her friends. And I think the only one happy about this pick is Ms. Delacroix. Which also gives another sense of surprise because what did Tessi do that made Mrs. Delacroix hate her so much.
  • The surprise factor of the story I think is when you first find out they are going to stone Tessie Hutchinson when it states "Mr. Summers said. "Let's finish quickly." Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones." Which even though it doesn't tell you exactly what's happening you can tell that she's about to get stoned. And you can assume this because of the foreshadowing that is showed in the beginning with the stone collecting. And theirs also a sense of surprise that's wondering why they have to stone her and why they can't kill her normanly.
  • I tell you it wasn't fair
