  • The Boston Tea Party
  • No taxation without representation!
  • Lexington and Concord
  • Fire!
  • The Stamp Act
  • I refuse to pay!
  • The Boston Tea Party took place in 1773. This was a form of protest for adding the Tea Act. They also were doing this because the British East India Company was importing cheaper tea for a higher price. The Sons of Liberty marched towards the Boston Harbor dressed as Native Americans and proceeded to dump 342 crates of tea into the harbor.
  • The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
  • Lexington and Concord was the beginning of the Revolutionary War. It began on September 3, 1783 when the British went to claim gunpowder from the nearby towns. When both the Colonists and British met, one of the parties fired upon the other. This was also where the saying The Shot Heard Around the World came from.
  • French and Indian War
  • The Stamp Act was the first of many laws to be put on the colonies. The law made it so that anything that used paper like cards, paper itself, etc. needed to be payed with a stamp, increasing the overall cost. The Sons of Liberty was formed from this and there would continue to be protests of this unfair tax.
  • The Boston Massacre
  • The Declaration of Independence was signed on August 2nd, 1776. It was written by Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd president. At the time, he was a member of the newly founded Congress. It was made to give a message to Britain, saying that they wanted to be free and that they would govern themselves.
  • The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended in 1763. The effect of this war is what caused the Revolutionary War. The British had won protecting the Colonies, but was bankrupt because of it. The Stamp and Tea Act were both ways to make up for the money lost in this war.
  • The Boston Massacre was a tragedy. It was said that English soldiers began to get aggravated after a crowd of Colonists began to throw snowballs and oyster shells at them. Someone supposedly said from the crowd, Fire!, and the Brtiish followed through. Five people died, and Colonists were furious with the British.
