Öykü Penceresi Metni

  • Hi, Connie!
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • Hi, Obie!
  • I've missed you. Too bad we can't go to our offices during the pandemic.
  • At least we can meet in this story board -- and we don't have to wear masks!
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • I don't understand. We're not really meeting. We're just characters in a work of fiction.
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • !!!
  • Obie! You're always so . . . objective. Still, I'm happy to see you. I need someone to help me think through a new assignment for my literature-based comp class
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • Give students a list of terms to learn and then give them a multiple choice test. I'll bet there are even test banks with pre-made questions.
  • So, you want my help constructing a new understanding of your pedagogy. . .
  • I wouldn't ask anyone else!
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • What kind of assignment are you developing?
  • I'm assessing their knowledge of literary terms such as "character" and "fiction." They need to know how to use the terms correctly to write their papers.
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • I keep forgetting that you love Scholar Academic Ideology. Don't you remember Chickering and Ehrmann's comment that "learning is not a spectator sport"? I want to take a more active approach.
  • That's easy! Link your course space to a good website that provides definitions of the terms.
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • Your website link idea is good. Students can read that, do more research, then find examples in our readings
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • I've been studying Open Pedagogy. These assignments do involve students in creating course content. They learn more.
  • This is the best way for students to learn the definitions as literary scholars use them.
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • Yuck! No way!
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • How will you manage that? And how will the students get the knowledge to explain the terms?
  • MCQ tests are simpler
  • I want my students to discover the definitions on their own by creating a "course glossary" of literary terms in pod cast form!
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • That sounds very involved.
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • I like to set the MCQs to auto-grade in the course space and move on, you know?
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • There's a great free app called Audacity that will allow students to record their own pod casts. This could be a semester-long project for the whole class.
  • Wiley & Hilton would call them "disposable assignments," things student do once and then forget. How does help anyone learn?
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • I want to create a "renewable assignment" that produces resources for all students to learn from. Even YOU sound bored by MCQ tests!
  • What do students think of open pedagogy?
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • Some of them seem to like it
  • The site Open Pedagogy Notebook published an essay by student Jaime Marsh, who took open pedagogy science classes. She described how much she enjoyed compiling research on topics she selected. She felt more accountable and confident in her learning. Isn't that what we all want for our students, Obie?
  • Objectively speaking, yes. I agree.
  • I'm going to use Audacity to record instructions for my students. Can I send that to you for feedback?
  • ENGL1020Literature & CompositionLiterary Terms Assignment
  • Sure! I need to run. I have an appointment to get my vaccine
  • You're a fictional character. How can you get a vaccine?
