  • Gold & Salt Trade In North Africa By Jack Tiernan
  • Once upon a time, a North African named Borax, who lived in Timbuktu, is going to cross the Sahara Desert and Niger River to trade.
  • Hello, im Borax!
  • Hmph
  • Borax is faced with a 700 kilometer journey with his caravan for a silent trade with the Wangarans.
  • Borax and his caravan ran into a nomad tent on the way to Ghana. They entered into the nomad tent and ask if they could restock their food and water. The Nomads are peaceful people and allowed them restock their supplies.
  • Horray! More food and water!
  • When Borax and his caravan arrive at Ghana they are taxed on the way in for the salt that they carried.
  • Here you go sir.
  • Pay me now!
  • When Borax and his caravan arrive at Ghana they are brought to the Niger River and find 2 pounds of gold on the boat. The Wangarans were already miles away to see what the offer was.
  • Ooh
  • Borax and his caravan take the 2 pounds of gold pleased with the trade. They drop their 2 pounds of salt into the boat and bang the drums 2 times when they were miles away.
  • Bang Bang
  • The Wangarans made their way to the boat where the 2 pounds of salt was located. The Wangarans took the salt, pleased with the amount, and banged the drums twice to signal that the trade was over and both sides were pleased.
  • This looks like a good trade.
  • Bang Bang Trade finished!
  • On the way out we needed to pay our taxations one more time, and we were so happy to start our journey back home and bring goods to our city of Timbuktu.
  • One last taxation. Pay up please.
