In this case, King's letter is both a respectful yet powerful example of how written words can still illustrate a voice.

  • "Shooting an Elephant"Decision making is represented between the policeman and the audience. The policeman is unsure what to do at first but becomes pressured and decides to kill the elephant. Symbol: Elephant-- the symbol here is the elephant because it represents the overall broader picture of conflict between the people of Burma and Britain. Like the people of Burma, the elephant does not have much power and is forced to succumb to Britian, or in the case of the story, the policeman.
