Öykü Penceresi Metni

  • In this scene, Willy is feeling hopeless. Many times throughout the play, Willy calls to his older brother Ben, begging for help. He becomes also desperate because he even asks for the secret to success as a salesman. He becomes confused since he felt as though he did everything right but still did not reach the level of success he wanted.
  • Ben, I don't know how you do it. What is the secret? I try and I try but I can't seem to reach that same success that you have.
  • You see Willy, when I was 17 I walked into the jungle, and when I was 21 I walked out. And by God I was RICH
  • Blast from the past. This scene represents the rare moments in the play where Willy was actually happy. This is due to how much he loved his sons and at that time he was proud of them. At this moment he was giving his sons advice, trying to set them up for the future. Willy fantasies about the past because in the present he isn't doing as well and he misses the time where he had a real bond with his sons.
  • The man who creates personal interest, is the man who gets ahead.
  • Arguably the most tragic moment that could happen to Willy. When Willy got fired it was like all hope was lost. From this point on in the play there was no shed of happiness from Willy. He became desperate, to where he started yelling at Howard. He understood though that business is business and eventually accepted reality. He breaks down more by falling back into fantasizing.
  • Business is Business, Willy
  • In this scene, Willy meets up with his friend Charley. They go back and forth as Charley tries to find out what is wrong with Willy and even offers him a job but Willy is stubborn and does not take it. Saying he has a job but is really being prideful. But Willy also takes the time to appreciate Charley, really thanks him for always being there and lending him money.
  • I have a job, but you're the only true friend I have
  • I am offering you a job!
  • The scene that exposes it all, Willy gets caught by Biff cheating on his wife. This is where all the hate comes from, and where Biff lost his motivation in life. Willy felt devastated in this scene. Trying to cover up what he did and feeling regret while also being angry with Biff since he was giving up on his dream. He didn't see his son the same way anymore, where he was basically having a panic attack over the situation and this was also probably the reason why Biff became so protective of his mother. Willy still loves Biff and tries reinsuring him that everything is going to be okay. But that approach fails and it just leaves nothing for Willy to do except order him around. This being one of the most impactful scenes in the play.
  • YOU'RE A FAKE!
  • THAT'S AN ORDER!
  • The last scene of Willy. Willy finally pulled through with his suicide. Willy was tired of the life that he was living and wanted to go with his brother. His brother, being a major influence, told Willy that their ride was there and that it was time to go. Willy was heavily depressed at this point, fell back into his fantasy life, and then made sure he was able to permanently escape reality for good. In a way Willy can be seen as selfish here, since he did this while abandoning his family and left them wondering why. His wife of course feeling the most pain.
