- the day of 9/11 was September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked commercial aircraft flights and crashed them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. After the Taliban refused to hand up al-Qaeda commanders, the US invaded Afghanistan.

- the soviet union had many gotten nuclear weapons. Castro had acquired some American companies. The exiles intended to invade Cuba and remove Castro, and the CIA armed and trained them. In April 1961, only four months after Kennedy took office, 1400 Cuban exiles landed at the Bay of Pigs, and CIA jets bombarded Cuban airfields the night before the operation. On the day of the invasion, however, Kennedy declined to provide air support to the exiles, and the exiles were defeated.
