  • Nebulae are made of mostly hydrogen and helium. The dust and gases in a nebula are very spread out, but gravity can slowly begin to pull together clumps of dust and gas. As these clumps get bigger and bigger, their gravity gets stronger and stronger.dust and gases.
  • Inside a nebula, there are areas where gravity causes dust and gas to “clump” together. As these “clumps” gather more and more mass their gravitational pull increases, forcing more atoms together. This process is known as accretion, and the result is a protostar.

  • Nuclear fission is a reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits into two or more smaller nuclei.The fission process often produces gamma photons, and releases a very large amount of energy even by the energetic standards of radioactive decay.

  •  A main sequence star is powered by fusion of hydrogen into helium in its core. High-mass main sequence stars have shorter lifetimes than low-mass main sequence stars.Supergiants develop when massive main-sequence stars run out of hydrogen in their cores, at which point they start to expand, just like lower-mass stars.
