- Jing-mei's mother was watching a show call "The Ed Sullivan Show" in the television. She saw a chines girl played an encore of "Anitra's Dance" and then she give Jing-mei all kinds of tests.

- Jing-mei's mother clean Old Chong house for he could give Jing-mei piano lessons. Old Chong was deaf.

- Jing-mei hit the first wrong note and she realized something didn't sound quite right. Then she hit another and another followed that. She couldn't stop playing and Old Chong said Bravo! Bravo! She heard a little boy whisper to his mom "that was awful".
- Jing-mei didn't wanted to talk to her mother about what happen in the talent show. Then Jing-mei was shouting at her mother and telling her she wish she could not be born and stuff. Then her mother mouth closed.

- 30 years later her parents want to her house for her 30 year birthday. Her mother offer her the piano she bought and Jing-mei said no. But her mother said you played it so you keep it. A few month later Jing-mei's mother died and Jing-mei want to get the piano and took it home.
