In a World Where Firemen start fires and books are illegal, A fireman, Montag, was walking home from the firehouse one night where he meets a young teen named Clarisse. While walking, She asks him if he is happy. Montag replies laughing Of Course! But when he walks home, he begins to look at his life in a different way and finds out, no, he isn't happy.

After witnessing an older woman commit suicide by burning herself with her books, Montag becomes intrigued by what is inside these stories. Montag then takes a book from the burning pile for himself, knowing full well that the law clearly states that all books are illegal.
CONFLICT
CHIEF BEATTY
Montag's fire chief, Captain Beatty, realizes that Montag stole a book for himself, and he tries to explain why books are illegal and must be burnt. It an attempt to reason with Montag, Beatty begins to spout verses from different books and explains what they mean.
RISING ACTION
Montag reads has had enough and decides to read a poem to his wife and her friends who have come over to watch the television. They all leave horrified and upset and threaten to file a complaint against Montag. It is his own wife who ends up doing so.

Montag is ordered by Beatty to burn his books and turn himself in afterward for the crimes he has committed. Instead, he murders Beatty and the other fireman by burning them alive and escapes with the few books he has left. He makes his way down the river to a colony of people who love books and have memorized almost every book in existence.
FALLING ACTION
With the help of Granger and the other intellectuals, Montag sets off on a mission to St. Louis to meet a book printer to start producing books again. However, before they could begin their trip to Missouri, Jets fly over the colony and obliterate the main city. The story ends with Montag and the colony looking for others to try and rebuild society.
