- Hazel is at support group and meets Augustus Waters, the person she ends up falling in love with. He was also friends with Hazel's friend Issac. After the group meeting they both talked together and bonded for a bit.
- "Do not call nine-one-one or my parents I will never forgive you don't please just come please just come" (Green, 243)
- After Hazel is bummed because her parents can't afford going to Amsterdam to talk to Peter Van Houten, Augustus invites Hazel on a date to the Funky Bones sculpture park. There he tells her the news that he is going to use his cancer wish on going to Amsterdam with Hazel is one wish you can make to do/see/experience something that regular kids wouldn't be able to do for free.
- "What a load of horse crap kid, eh?" (Green, 271)
- Hazel immediately was experiencing excruciating pain in her head. She explained it as "an endless chain of intracranial firecrackers" that made her think her death was coming now. She waited for the pain to be over when she lost consciousness, which she never did.
- It's 2:00 am in the morning and Hazel gets a call on her phone. She's sure that it's a call informing her about Augustus's death, but its actually Augustus calling for her to pick him up at the gas station because there is something wrong with his G-Tube. He begs not for Hazel to call his parents or the police.
- The scene takes place at Augustus Waters's funeral which is an emotional time for Hazel. She doesn't realize that Peter Van Houten is there until hewhispered in her ear about how the minister's words are "horse crap". Hazel just wanted to forget about him being there.
- Lidewij, Van Houten's assistant emailed Hazel with some pages ripped from Augustus's notebook. Hazel had wanted to find these really badly because it's an important piece of him to her. She reads it and it happens to be a deep letter that Augustus wrote to Peter Van Houten, but it's about her.
