Constitution
Part 3 - There are 27amendments, or additions and changes to the constitution.
The Constitution book is made up of 3 parts. Part 1 - The first part is the Preamble stage. That stage is an introduction. It says the goals and purposes of the government
We have a constitution so everyone can follow the rules. The constitution establishes the form of the federal government.
There are judges, lawyers, and other important things in the constitution book. They are really small so that they can fit in the book!
What is inside the constitution book and why do we have the constitution?
The federation was introduced on the 1st of January 1901. A federation is a group of states grouping together to be controlled by one government.
Australia was separated into colonies until 1901.
After the federation in 1901 Australia became 1 colony with one leader.
Australia was still 1 whole but separated into colonies run by different people.
How many people voted yes?90.77% of people voted yes in this referendum.
A referendum is a vote by the public to try and change the law.
What was the propose of the 1967 referendum? The 1967 referendum was to change two sections of the constitution. One section was 127 of the constitution. That was changed so Aboriginals can vote in the census and section 51 was changed to make laws of peace for all Australians.
Now what is the referendum? What was the purpose of a referendum? Was it a convincing people who said yes.
They headed off to go see the prime minister make Australia one.
We need to go watch the prime minister talk about the federation.
This is really important because federation will connect all colonies together so we are one.
