- I wish to know and learn more about Theyyam, its deep cultural roots and its architectural reflections relevant to the present we are living in.
- Trained in a foreign university, with your identity as an outsider, how will you contribute to Theyyam performing community? what will be the value of your research? Why do you need to do this research?
- I decided to do this project where I am trying to understand an indegenious cultural expression from Kerala, my native place. But my identity as an outsider of that community is making this a complex task. The major issue is that I can't find my identity because I do not know if my community is indegenious to Kerala because there were rapid complex migrations in and out of Kerala state, within India even befor 14th century when European traders showed up on the shores. Preveious generations of my family lived and died in Kerala as far as we know, I started searching for the history of my community in Kerala a few days back. The research is now- Who am I?
- I totally understand what you are saying, the first task is to define what you mean by indengious in an Indian/ South Asian context.
