Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contains a green substance called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is what soaks up the light energy in order for photosynthesis to happen.
There are 2 stages of PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Light-Dependent Stage
Light-Independent Stage
The light reaction creates oxygen, ATP (energy), and NADPH for later on.
This stage cannot happen in the dark. It depends on the sunlight.
Stage 1: Light-Dependent
This reaction uses the energy from the light-dependent stage to change carbon dioxide into glucose (sugar). The molecules go through a process called the Calvin Cycle.
This reaction can happen in the dark or with light present.
Stage 2: Light-Independent
Photosynthesis is important for us humans too! Plants need carbon dioxide to survive, and humans need oxygen.
Through the process of photosynthesis, oxygen is made. This makes photosynthesis helpful to both humans and plants!
