- The grenade missed its target and it injured several bystanders behind the car. The archduke's car sped off to the town hall.
- Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie arrived at Sarajevo train station at 9:28 a.m. A car awaited them.
- They drove slowly towards the town hall and waved towards the crowd on the roadside.
- Seven Black Hand Assassins waited for the car by the Cumurja Bridge. One of the Serbians had a hand grenade with a 10 second fuse.
- The Archduke cancelled the rest of his visit. The disappointed assassins went about their usual day. Princip, one of the assassins, went for lunch at a famous restaurant on Franz Joseph Street.

- The archduke made the last minute decision to check on the injured people from the bomb.
- They took a wrong turn and passed a place called Schiller's to ask for directions.
- Both the Archduke and his wife pass away. Princip received a 20 year sentence in jail and eventually died to tuberculosis.
- By coincidence, Princip was also on Franz Joseph Street. He took out his pistol and shot Ferdinand and Sophie in the throat and stomach respectively.
