  • Sir Gawain uses the axe then chops off the Green Knights head in fulfilling the challenge. However the knight did not die. He picked up his head and told Gawain to find him after one year to finish the challenge.
  • "I owed you a stroke, and I've struck; consider yourself Well paid."
  • After a year, Sir Gawain keeps his word to the game. He takes an adventure to find the Green Knight. But he ends up finding a castle in the middle of the forest. Lord Bertilak gives Gawain a transitory shelter but has to do exchanges with the lord and the Lady of the Castle.
  • "I can't deny my guilt. My works shine none too fair. Give me your good will. A henceforth I'll beware."
  • While Lord Bertilak going to hunt. Howerver, the lady offers a green girdle, that would preserve him from death and wounds, he reluctantly accepted it.
  • The Green Knight and Sir Gawain meet again to finish the game. The Green Knight does two fake swings before he strikes Gawain. However, only make a visible cut on Gawain's neck.
  • The Green Knight then reveals that the castle, the exchanges, and Lord Bertilak was him and of his doings. Gawain realizes that he broke the exchange's rules. He then promises to wear the girdle to represent his failure. The Green Knight forgave Gawain and praised him as an honorable man.
