- In the beginning of "The Birthmark" the narrater introduces the characters. He introduces Aylmer, the really smart scientist and Geogeiana, his wife.
- CLIMAX
- Aylmer loves his wife a lot, but she has a small birthmark on her left cheek that he hates a lot.
- FALLING ACTION
- Aylmer becomes so obsessed with the birthmark. He is the only person that thinks that the birthmark is disturbing. The people from town think that Geogeiana is very pretty. Aylmer wears Geogeiana down and then she agrees to let Aylmer remove it for her.
- RESOLUTION
- They ended up moving into his apartment so he can do his scientific experiment. As Geogeiana decides to look into what he has been studying. She finds his journals and finds out that his experiments never end up reaching their full goal of what they are indented to do.
- Aylmer comes up with a potion that he thinks will get rid of her birthmark and make her perfect.
- She drinks the potion and the birthmark begins to fade, but she ends ups fading just like her birthmark.
