- 4“I’m glad you’re here early. Let’s see if we have you set up correctly. We’re really glad tohave you participate.”
- 3“My name is Paul, and I’m the stage manager.”

- 1“Excuse me, but are you, Melody Brooks?”

- “This is where the members of each team will stand,”
- 1“They each have fourlarge buttons to push. Red is for the letter ‘A.’ Blue is for the letter ‘B.’ Yellow is for the letter‘C.’ And ‘D,’ of course, is green.”
- 2“And here, Miss Melody, is where you will sit. Right next to your teammates. I have riggeda special answer board for you, so it’s adjusted to the height of your wheelchair.”
- This is the first picture I created. Here is when Melody and her mom arrive at the studio for the Whiz Kids Competition. Paul introduces himself to Melody. Paul takes her to see where she will be.
- 2“My son is in a wheelchair, I build stuff for Rusty all the time, butthere’s no way he could do what you are about to do. Knock their socks off, champ! Rusty will be watching.”
- 1“Wow! This is perfect. How did you know?”
- 3“Okay! For Rusty.”
- Paul shows Melody where the competition will take place. He treats Melody like a normal person. He shows her where each team member will stand.
- “Thanks, Paul, Very, very much.”
- 3“I can do this,“I’m ready.”
- He shows her which button is for what letter. Then he shows her where she will sit. In her spot is a podium just the right size for her.
- 2 “Good evening!“My name is Charles Kingsley, and I’d like to welcome you to the Whiz Kids Southwest OhioRegional Competition!”

- 1“Cameras rolling! In five, four, three, two . . .”
- Melody is amazed that he did that for her. She also wonders how he knew. He tells her about his son, and that he knows what to do for her. He also tells her to try her best for Rusty because what she is doing is very hard to do.
- She looks at his work and thanks him. Then she is ready to start. She tells herself positive things.
- Here the camera people get ready for live action. Mr. Kingsley introduces the show and himself.
