- Osiris was a wise, powerful, and well-respected king who brought peace and law to Egypt. His wife was Isis, the goddess of magic. His brother Seth however was jealous of Osiris' power, and had a plot to kill him. While Osiris slept, Seth snuck into his room and made measurements with his person.
- Seth used the measurement to have a chest perfectly fitting Osiris built. Then, Seth invited his brother to his party. Central to festivities was a contest: whoever could fit in his fancy new chest could keep it. Of course, Osiris was the only one who could fit. Seth sealed it shut, trapping Osiris inside.
- Seth dumped the chest in the river, drowning Osiris. Isis found the chest and hid the body, hoping to return to the site. A furious Seth chopped up the body to prevent a proper burial ritual. Isis used magic to put the body back together.
