  • In the United States colonial history, British legislation aimed at ending the smuggling trade in sugar. Also, the molasses from the French and the Dutch west indies and providing made them a lot of money to make the British empire bigger responsibilities following the French and Indian war. The largely ineffective molasses act of 1733, the sugar act provided for strong customs enforcement of duties to remove sugar and molasses imported into the colonies from non-British Caribbean sources.
  • Boston-massacre
  • The Townshend Acts were four laws passed by the British parliament of 1767. Imposing and enforcing the collection of taxes on the American colonies. Having no representation in Parliament, the American colonists saw the act as an abuse of power. When the colonist resisted, Britian sent troops to collect the taxes, further heightening the tensions that led to the American revolutionary war. They tax on material such as glass, led, paper, and tea.
  • Boston tea party
  • The stamp act of 1765 was the first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British Parliament. The act, which imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies, came at a time when the British empire was deep in debt from seven year.
  • Intolerable-act
  • March 5th, 9 soldiers were lined up. The soldiers shot 5 people 3 hundred people or more. The crowd bring clubs, stones and snowballs. They later ran off and the 9 soldiers were taken to court. 6 of the soldiers were acquitted and the other 2 were convicted with manslaughter, there defender was john Adams.
  • American colonists were furious and angry for the British for taxing people without their representation. Boston rebels dressed as native Americans. They then dumped 18000 pounds worth of 342 chests of tea that was the British supplies. The leaves that make the tea couldn't be recovered so this created a huge problem.
  • The English response to the British actions. Boston harbor was first closed stopping people from coming in. Quartering act was enforced allowing soldiers to be housed in vacant homes. This meant that any soldiers could enter anyone's home and stay there and be sheltered and protect. Boston was put under martial law ruled by the military forces.
