Anyas father used to be a serf. After serfdom was abolished, former serfs had to pay off a lifetime of debt that was nearly impossible to pay off. Since her mother passed recently, Anya Ivanov is now only 20 taking care of her younger siblings. This is because her father is constantly working to pay off the debt.
Returning Home
Anya tried to educate herself in private using her fathers books, but since she was taking care of her siblings there always seemed to be an interruption. She was frustrated, this wasn't the life she wanted for herself.
Womens March
WOMENS MARCH
When her father was home, she ran errands and went to the market. While she was out one day, she saw a flyer for a Women's march taking place the next day. Due to her recent frustration, she came up with a plan.
Continuing The Fight
When she returned home that night, she thought long and hard about her decision she had to make. She could continue living a miserable life, a boring and stressful one. Or, she could go out and be the person she always wanted to be. She waited for the middle of the night before disappearing with a few of her belongings.
The next day, she attended the march where she rightfully protested for her rights. She didn't want other women to be stuck living like her, and have their only worth be staying in the kitchen and taking care of children.
After some time, she was given the freedom to work, vote, and live her own life independently. She missed her family at times, and she knew what she did was selfish. However, she planned on helping her family out once her new life was finally settling. She empowered young girls to embrace who they truly are.
