It was dark when Shackleton and his men reached a rocky beach .Men were excited and they fell on their lands and knees lapping the water like dogs. They were back at Georgia after eighteen months!
They had two choices. Go back to the sea again in a journey of 130 miles but it was too risky and they couldn't face it . Then Shackleton decided to cross South Georgia Island on foot with 2 of his men, Worley and Crean. His men had placed all their hopes on him and Shackleton needed to look for help , he could not disappoint them.
Shackleton, Crean and Worsley had to cross the mountains and glaciers of South Georgia to reach the Stromness Bay Whaling station .They kept thinking about their fellows and that thought helped them to kept going and accomplished their objective. They finally arrived there and Shackleton started to organize a ship to set out for Elephant Island.
