  • Hi Marga and francis ! This is Sun!
  • You may think of me as a nice star who provides light and allows life on Earth, but I can also be very dangerous because my sunlight contains ultraviolet radiation, which is very dangerous for humans.
  • To protect yourselves from me marga and francis, you should wear sunscreen with an SPF 50, if you don't wear sunscreen you can get skin cancer.
  • WE CAN GET CANCER FROM THE SUN???
  • Yes, you can get cancer like Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and even Melanoma. Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer?
  • Can you tell us what these cancers are and how we can protect ourself from them?
  • Sure! Basal Cell Carcinoma occurs in areas that are easily exposed to the sun like your face and neck. This skin cancer is not really fatal but is still dangerous and it looks like pink or white bumps on your skin that are waxy and pearly.
  • What about Squamous cell carcinoma and Melanoma?
  • Yes! Melanoma is the deadliest type of the skin cancer. This skin cancer can occur anywhere on the body, even on places that haven't been exposed to the sun (me). If it's not removed it can be very fatal! You can use the "abcde" guideline to see if you have melanoma. Asymmetry. Most melanomas are asymmetrical. Border. Melanoma borders tend to be uneven and may have scalloped edges. Color. Multiple colors are a warning sign. Melanoma may have different shades. Diameter. It's good to see a mole when it is small, it’s a warning sign if it's ¼ inch in diameter or more. Evolving. Any change in size, shape, color or elevation on your skin may be a warning sign of melanoma.
