- Morrison worked for a lady and she earned 2 dollars for cleaning the woman's house. She didn't like the job but she did it for the money mostly to give half the wages to her mother so she wouldn't be a burden to her.But a larger part of my pride was based on thefact that I gave half my wages to my mother.I was not like the children in folktales:burdensome mouths to feed, nuisances to be corrected,problems so severe that they were abandoned to the forest.
