  • Russia Tsars had no time for Pahctic ideas like liberty and modernization because they were too busy having the time of their lives. While the serfs were breaking their backs in the fields, the Tsar held all the power.
  • Revolution
  • Alexander the second was dead, but Alexander the III took his place. Alexander thought all these minorities should be a little more Russian and thereby loyal to him. • Set Down
  • Upon his father's death, a totally unprepared Nicholas the II ascended the Russian throne. He wasn't a reformer like his grandfather nor was he a repressor like his dad. He wasn't ready to rule. However, Nicholas firmly believed that he was chosen by God to be Russia's ruler.
  • The End Of Revoltion
  • Sergei borrowed some money and got Russia some poor factories. The growing working class wasn't about to take it lying down, they started to strike. Nicholas hoped that wining a quick war would regain the support of the people. And the Russian people were filled with patriotic spunk. However, the Japanese won, an embarrassing defeat for Tsar Nicholas. The tension was rising rapidly and Russia was on the verge of revolution.
  • With losing to WWI soldiers were deserting the economy was imploding and in no time, Russia was starving. The people got angrier at the Tsar. World War one left Russia broke, hungry, and exhausted. And with Nicholas acting as Commander in Chief, he was getting even more blame. For the second time, Russia was on the brink of revolution. During the whole crisis in Petrograd, the liberals convinced the generals that if Nicholas abdicated the people would come down and the generals were on board. With all the chaos, Nicholas had no choice but to step down.
  • In October of 1917, Lenin took full control of the government in what is called the Bolshevik Revolution. Russia was now the first communist country in the world. After the revolution, Russia exited World War I by signing a peace treaty with Germany called the Treay of Brest-Litovsk.
