- One day her husband came home with something for her. They got invited to a ball. Mathilde didn't want to go to the ball because she didn't have anything to wear and she didn't have any jewels.
- I will go back out and look for it, if I don't find it we should replace it.
- The necklace I lent you wasn't worth more than 500 francs at the most!
- Mathilde went to her to see her friend to ask to borrow some jewelry and borrow a necklace to go with the new dress she got.
- A few years ago when I gave you back your necklace, it was a replacement one. I lost the one you gave me and replaced it. I have been in debt since.
- Mathilde goes to the ball with her husband and stays out until 4 a.m. When Mathilde is done dancing her and her husband leave and call a cab.
- Mathilde gets home and realizes that she lost the necklace she borrowed from Madame Forestier. Her and her husband agree to replace it if they cant find it.
- Years later, Mathilde admits to losing the necklace and replacing it.
