- When Lyddie was making oatmeal for the family a bear just came into the house and started rocking everything and Lyddie was of course scared but she kept that inside and made sure her family was safe from the bear.
- Lyddie goes to see charlie but then she gets jealous that Charlie gets to go to school and still be able to keep his job at the mill but Lyddie cant go to school because of her contract and if she did she would get blacklisted.
- Charlie and Lyddie are debating either to keep the money from the calf or give the money to their mother, Lyddie wants to keep the money and Charlie wants to give it to mama.
