- Ishmael and his friends have reached the village that their parents are supposedly staying in. They come in contact with a banana farmer named Gasemu outside the village and help him bring back the bundles to the village.
- Ishmael is arguing that they should not be stopped on the hill because he needs to see his family as soon as possible. Not having seen his family in such a long time he grows impatient lacks resolve and keeps insisting on heading over to the village. The rest of them need to drink water and take a rest on the hill. They will soon realize that they were right to stay on the hill.
- i'm so sorry Ishmael, there doesnt look to be any survivors. I am so so sorry.
- Ican't believe that h- happened. I was so close to seeing my family!
- They hear gunshots, dogs barking, and people screaming coming from the village and start running. Ishmael was upset they had waited because he knew there was a very good chance he would never see his family again. They ran over to the attacked village to see if all was lost.
- Ishmael, this is your families house. this is where they stayed.
- Ishmael, his friends, and Gasemu hide behind the shrubs watching the rebels destroy lives and homes in the village where their family is. There is so much terror in their eyes. Houses are engulfed in flames, and bodies burned beyond recognition everywhere. They are all shocked as to what they were watching so they sat there frozen in time.

- As the rebels left Gasemu looked around for family or any survivors but he didn't have any luck. Ishmael and his friends are devastated because there is no hope to see their family ever again.
- Gasemu tries to comfort Ishmael but is unsuccessful in doing so. Ishmael is quite angry and upset that his family is gone and that he will never see them again. he claims that his family's house will burn into ashes just like his family was burned. He attacks Gasemu in anger and the boys begin fighting among themselves.
