- ZZZzzzzzz wait did I just hear a squirrel??
- Mom, dad did you hear about the new song coming on the radio?
- OMG finally my favorite song came on. Black Coffee is the best, even the song and drink.
- What book are you picking out today?
- I love the smell of new books! Don't you Mrs. Long?
- When Nikki was a child she didn't watch TV so her family would spend time talking with the neighbors
- What are you doing here. Black people can't read. HAHAHA
- Nikki could always turn on the radio to be entertained by listening to her portable late at night.
- Uptown, there was a bookshop where Nikki went and absorbed the delightful smell of fresh books.
- She would go to the large library uptown and request a loan for Nikki. Southern whites enjoy humiliating southern blacks; they most certainly did this to Mrs. Long.
- Nonetheless, she returned the books to me, and I clasped them close to my heart, Nikki happily skipped back to Grandma's place.
- There was a world beyond, and Mrs. Long opened that cupboard, but there were no lions or witches to scare Nikki because of everything Mrs. Long had done for her.
