Öykü Penceresi Metni

  • Tobacco mosaic virus, or TMV, was the first virus discovered. Although this infectious disease was known to damage tobacco crops since the end of the 19th century, it was not until 1930 that the infectious agent was determined to be a virus.
  • In 1883, Adolf Mayer made the initial description of the disease, indicating that it could be transferred between plants in a similar way to bacterial infections.1 However, in 1889, Dmitri Ivanovski demonstrated that filtered culture medium free of bacteria still contained the agent infectious, this was the first concrete evidence about the existence of the virus.
  • In 1935, Wendell Meredith Stanley crystallized the virus and showed that it remains active after crystallization, although some of his conclusions were later shown to be incorrect. Also The first electron microscope images of the VMT were made in 1939
  • In 1955, it was shown that the MTV RNA and its capsid protein themselves assemble functional virus, indicating that the natural assembly mechanism is likely to be within the host cell.
  • In 1958, he speculated that the virus was hollow, not solid, and hypothesized that the MTV RNA was single-stranded.
