- the sperm enters the body into the vagina, and makes it way towards the crvix.
- The Fallopean Tube
- the cervix is the gateway into the uterus, and contains many pathways that sperm get lost in and die.
- Fertilization
- the uterus is where the fertilized embryo grows and develops, so there are lots of protectors not allowing the sperm to pass by.
- implantation
- one the sperm reach the Fallopian tube, they are safe from the body's immune system. they are provided with nourishment from the Fallopian tube so they can stay alive for up to several days.
- look it's the egg! at the end of the tunnel up near the ovary!
- i made it first! i can't believe i did it!!
- the remaining sperm must attempt to find the egg at the end of the Fallopian tube. once the sperm is inside the egg, the genetic payload is delivered, and the egg is fertilized
- this looks like a good spot!
- the zygote travels down the Fallopian tube, towards the uterus. on day 5 the embryo breaks out of it's protective shell, and implants into the wall of the uterus.
