- We might not last much longer, our ship is surrounded by the Yankees and we're taking too much damage!
- Admiral Buchanan has been hit!
- Hold your fire! The Tennessee surrenders!
- No! How could you surrender when the Union is so close to defeating us?
- Fort Gaines Surrenders!
- The Union ships attacked the Tennessee, the ship that Admiral Buchanan was on. This ironclad wasn't very fast, and although it had great protection, the Union had struck the chains that allowed the boat to move, leaving the boat vulnerable, and eventually it got captured by the Union.
- If you can't do your ONE job in fort Gaines and help us, then fort Morgan will do it FOR you. Dismissed!
- Although the Confederate fleet surrendered, they still guarded their forts along the bay.
- CHARGE ON FORT MORGAN! SHOW NO MERCY!
- A few days later...
- Fort Morgan surrenders...
- The man on the left was General Richard Page, and he was in charge of fort Morgan. He was very upset that fort Gaines surrendered because he had ordered them to keep fighting at all costs, but they decided that it was too dangerous, so they disobeyed his order.
- General Page worked tirelessly to keep fort Morgan, and that's what kept it going for the last two weeks of the battle, so the Union fleet focused and worked diligently to take down the fort. On August 22, the Union started full-scale attacking fort Morgan.
- At 6 a.m. on August 23, 1864, fort Morgan surrendered, ending the Battle of Mobile bay and giving the Union a victory that would encourage them and eventually win more battles. These wins helped secure Lincoln's re-election in November.
