  • "Lennie! Lennie for god sakes don't drink so much "..."Lennie, you gonna be sick like you was last night!
  • Loneliness
  • “I didn’t mean to scare you. I was talkin’about myself. A guy sets alone out here at night, maybe readin’ books orthinkin’ or stuff like that. Sometimes he gets thinkin’, an’ he got nothing to tellhim what’s so an’ what ain’t so. Maybe if he sees somethin’, he don’t knowwhether it’s right or not. He can’t turn to some other guy and ast him if he seesit too. He can’t tell. He got nothing to measure by.
  • Dreams
  • “O.K. Someday—we’re gonna get the jack together and we’re gonna have alittle house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs
  • “That’s it—that’s it. Now tell how it is with us.”
  • This represents friendship because this shows that George cares for Lennie and is concerned for Lennie and that they look out for each other and how George knows that Lennie doesn't know any better so he does his best to care and look out for him.
  • Companionship
  • “Ain’t many guys travel around together,” he mused. “I don’t know why. Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.”
  • This represents loneliness because Crooks is isolated in a room alone and he gets lonely and wants to do some of the things that the guys do and is jealous of the relationship and friendship that Crooks and Lennie have.
  • Powerlessness
  • “Make ‘um let me alone, George.”
  • This represents the theme of dream because Lennie and George have a well thought out dream of owning their own farm together and George works hard dealing with Lennie so that they can be happy and share this dream together
  • Barriers
  • “Well, I ain’t giving you no trouble. Think I don’t like to talk to somebody ever’ once in a while? Think I like to stick in that house alla time?”
  • “Maybe you better go along to your own house now. We don’t want no trouble.”
  • This represents companionship because Lennie and George always travel together and they enjoy traveling together and it is a rare thing to see during their time but they look out for each other.
  • “It’s a lot nicer to go around with a guy you know,”
  • This represents powerlessness because at this moment Curley had the most power. Lennie was scared and didn't know what to do and Curley was beating him up Lennie didn't know what to do so he looked at George.
  • This represents a barrier because Curley's wife is the only woman on the ranch and she is separated and she get's lonely and wants people to talk to but the men don't talk to her because they think she is trouble
