- While the family is waiting for a guest, the father and son are playing chess while the mother is knitting besides the fire.

- Their guest finally arrived, Sergeant-Major Morris. When he arrived he starts telling stories about his time in the military. One, in particular, came up in the conversation. It was the story of the monkey's paw. Where you have three wishes to make, but they come with a costly price.
- Falling Action
- KNOCK KNOCK
- The mother and son didn't really believe this story, so jokingly they made the father make a wish. The father wished for 200 pounds to pay off the house. And the son was playing the piano while his father made a wish, struck a few chords impressively.
- Resolution
- The next day, the son went to work as he does. Then a man in a nice suit was outside of the gate deciding whether to go knock on the door. She opened the door for the stranger. After the stranger came into the house he said that his son has died due to an accident at work. Due to that, the company decided to give compensation of 200 pounds to the family.
- After that, the mother and father fell into a deep depression. Then one night, Mrs. White woke the old man up and told him " THE PAW, THE PAW." She was talking about how she could wish for his son back. As soon as they made that wish, a couple of knocking was at the door. The mother hurries to the door but doesn't open it. While the husband was making a last wish.

- Once Mr.White finally made his last wish the knocking stops. When Mrs. White finally opens the door, she finds the streetlamp flickering and just wind. She started crying again. That gave the husband courage to go outside and pat her back.
