  • INTRODUCTION
  • Severe Acute Respiratory (SARS) is a viral respiratory disease caused by an known coronavirus. It can be spread through close contact between people. Usually the patients will start a fever and body aches, followed by shortness of breath and dry cough.
  • In November 2002, the SARS emerged in China and Spread to other countries. Fortunately, the epidemic had been brough under control.
  • WHERE THEY LIVE
  • About the pathogens of SARS, the researchers are still unable to pinpoint the origin of the virus. Some researchers discovered that SARS-CoV was an infection caused by human slaughter or consumption of wild animals. Besides that, some researchers even believed that SARS-CoV was a seasonal coronavirus.
  • SARS-CoV can be isolated from the patient's host; The host cell can cultivate SARS-CoV; It able to pass the filter; It can cause the same or similar host to produce similar symptoms
  • CLASSIFICATION & STRUCTURE
  • SARS-CoV is a spherical shape with a diameter of about 100 nm. Its nucleocapsid is composed of mRNA and phosphoprotein and there is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus inside it. The SARS-CoV genome encodes four structural proteins required to drive cytoplasmic viral assembly and they are spike protein, membrane protein, nucleocapsid protein, and envelope protein
  • SARS-CoV belong to Riboviria, the kingdom is Orthornavirae, the phylum is Pisuviricota, the class is Pisoniviricetes, the order is Nidovirales, the family is Coronaviridae, and the genus is Beta coronavirus.
  • REPRODUCTION
  • Primary interactions between nsps and host cell factors during the early coronavirus replication cycle initiate the biogenesis of replication organelle. The mechanisms underlying replication organelle formation are not fully understood, the concerted role of the membrane-spanning nsp3, nsp4, nsp6 has been implicated in diverting host endomembrane into replication organelles.
  • Detailed electron microscopy investigations describe the phenotypic appearance and extend of membrane modifications induced by coronaviruses to accommodate viral replication.
  • BENEFIT AND HARM
  • Benefits:Researchers can study SARS-CoV to prepare for future outbreaks.Harm:Health effects - causing widespread serious illness across a large population and many deaths.
  • Social impact - tension surged in the community.Economic impact - The SARS epidemic brought great harm not only to peoples' physical and mental health, but also to the economy.
  • DRUG RESISTANCE AND CONCLUSION
  • Since the end of the SARS epidemic, countries around the world have still not developed a vaccine against SARS-CoV. On the internet, there are some research articles discussing SAR vaccines, such as SAR inactivated vaccines.
  • In conclusion, SARS is a disease caused by a newly emerged virus, and it is highly contagious. Although the prevention and treatment used in the now is perfect, there are still many problems to be studied in the thorough control and prevention of SARS.
