  • When I turned five, before school started, my Mom took me to a doctor, who tried to test me to see how smart I was. Chapter 4, pages 24 and 25.

  • Mom enrolled me into regular school, where I was placed in a special class with other students who also have disabilities. It is the H-5 classroom. It is boring and they teach us nothing. Chapter 5, page29.

  • This is Violet Valencia, our neighbor, who watches me until my parents get home from work. I call her Mrs. V. She gives me no sympathy, but encourages me to try and do some things that I cannot do. Chapter 6, pages 42-46.

  • After a lot of paper work filled out and turned in, the school was able to provide me with a helper, her name is Catherine. She is cool, and understands me. She knows I am smart and wants me to be able to communicate better. Chapter 12, page 104.
  • One day in my inclusion class, a girl brought in a laptop. I thought about how great it would be if I had a special computer for my abilities. Catherine helped me find information on them for my parents to look at. Chapter 14-15.

  • Later, Catherine told me she was proud of me. "Not," I typed. Catherine said, "Why not?  You beat them all." I typed back, "They think my brain is messed up like the rest of me."

  • For two weeks, Mrs. V. and I practiced everyday after school, and even on Saturdays to prepare for the Regional Whiz Kids Quiz competition.
  • Since we won the Regional competition, our team gets to go to Washington D.C., for the National competition. Chapter 25, page 222.
  • We asked about the other students. She said they were here extra early, when they found out the flights were being cancelled, they took an earlier flight. Chapter 28.
  • The team had all met for breakfast without me! "They left me on purpose! How could they do that? They left me on purpose!" Chapter 29, page 262.
  • Since I missed the competition on Thursday, Friday I insisted on going to school. It was raining, I had to use my regular wheel chair, and I had to use my old talking board instead of my Medi-Talker. Chapter 30. 
  • The windows were foggy and Mom could not see Penny. This is all my fault for insisting on going to school! I hope Penny is all right!! Chapter 30, page 276.
  • Thankfully, Penny was okay. No brain damage. Just a broken leg.
  • On Monday, after the confrontation, I start to laugh, my hand jerks and knocks the trophy onto the floor. "When they see that I'm not going to go balistic on them, they finally start to laugh as well-a little." Chapter 32, page 289.
