Storyboard Text

  • Okay, let me give the brief meaning of it.
  • Hello Jaime, Sofie, and James. What brought you all here?
  • Yes, Sofie is right ma'am. It's because we often hear the word 'waves' nowadays.
  • Hello Ms. Reyes, We are here to ask what is waves and the types of it?
  • Wave motions transfer energy from one place to another. A wave is a physical phenomenon characterized by its frequency, wavelength, and amplitude. They play an important role in our daily life. This is because waves are a carrier of energy and information over large distances.
  • Transverse waves are like those on water, with the surface going up and down, Crest - The highest part of a transverse wave. Trough - The lowest part of a transverse wave. Wavelength - The distance between one crest and the next in a transverse wave. Amplitude - The height from the resting position to the crest of the transverse wave.
  • Longitudinal waves are like of those of sound, consisting of alternating compressions and rarefactions in a medium. However instead of peaks and troughs, longitudinal waves have compressions and rarefactions.
  • Electromagnetic waves or EM waves are waves that are created as a result of vibrations between an electric field and a magnetic field. In other words, EM waves are composed of oscillating magnetic and electric fields.
  • A mechanical wave is a disturbance in matter that transfers energy through the matter. The matter through which a mechanical wave travels is called the medium (plural, media).
  • Now that you know what is waves and types of it, can you share what you have learned?
  • A wave is a continuous and repeating disturbance of a medium and a pulse is a single disturbance.
  • Thank you ma'am for your time and sharing information about waves.
  • Electromagnetic waves are produced by the vibration of charged particles. Mechanical waves require a medium in order to transport their energy from one location to another.
  • In a transverse wave, the particles are displaced perpendicular to the direction the wave travels. In a longitudinal wave the particles are displaced parallel to the direction the wave travels.
