- When preparing the patient, ensure that no egg allergies are present, as well making sure the patient hasnt eaten for at least 4 hours, If diabetic, check blood glucose levels
- Ive been having some pretty bad abdonminal pains lately and have become very bloated as well
- Hello Robin, My name is Tyler I am a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, It looks like your Doctor ordered a Gastric Empty for you, do you know why it was ordered?
- I'm sorry to hear that, In order to do this test we're going to try and eat all of this special meal I prepared for you. Let me tell you a bit about this meal...
- The meal is just some eggs mixed with our radiopharmaceutical, alongside toast with jelly and water. Make sure you haven't eaten for 4 hours prior to this meal either, as we just want to see the food we gave you in your stomach. Try to get as the whole meal, or as much of the meal as you can within ten minutes so we can start imaging right away and track the food as it goes down. That's all there is to it, its very simple!
- *Make sure the eggs contain .5-1 mCi of Tc-99m Sulfur Colloid to ensure adequate imaging*
- Just that simple, once we acquire these images of what your food is doing we will send them to your doctor and they will tell you the results!
- Wow and I just stand here for one minute, once an hour, for 4 hours? This test is so easy!
