Storyboard Text

  • It's such a nice day out here Dan. I wish we could bask in the glory of the sun all day everyday.
  • I wish that too Charlie ...
  • Srijith Kannan PHIL130
  • DAN! WATCH OUT FOR THAT SCORPION!
  • AHHH!!
  • NOOOOOO! WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE YOU DAN? WHY?!
  • OUCH! CHARLIE IT HURTS!
  • Anybody out there?! My friend Dan is lying on a heap of sand and is hurt badly!
  • Charlie...what hurts more than this excruciating scorpion bite is the fact that you didn't think of the Sorites Paradox
  • DAN! This is no time for philosophy. You're on the verge of dying!
  • No Charlie..*cough cough*...don't say that.
  • Philosophy is love...philosophy is life.
  • Dan...You're dying and you want me to be more concerned about my word choice than YOU?
  • Charlie, why did you choose to say "heap" of sand?
  • Charlie...let me explain you the Sorites Paradox before I die. I don't want you to remember me as the guy who passed out in your backyard last Tuesday after singing multiple Taylor Swift songs.
  • Alright buddy. Let this be your legacy...
  • I know but you are on more than one grain of sand. Why can't I call it a heap then?
  • One grain of sand is not enough to constitute a heap.
  • Because if n grains of sand do not constitute a heap, then neither do n+1 grains of sand.
  • Then by that logic, we can say that even a million grains of sand do not constitute a heap.
  • Yes, that is the Sorites Paradox. It hurt me that you said "heap of sand" because there is vagueness in the language ("heap"). This is a response to the paradox called Supervaluationism.
  • Oh. I've also heard that vagueness is in knowledge because we can never know the exact percentage of sand which is the divide between heap and non-heap. Our knowledge is imperfect!
  • Yes, my friend. That is called Epistemicism and it is another response to the paradox. It seems like my time has come to leave this material world.
  • DON'T LEAVE ME DAN! You've been my bro for so long...
  • I love you bro...don't forget what I taught you about the Sorites Paradox
  • You'll always live in my heart Dan...
  • And so Charlie lived out the rest of his life as a self-proclaimed Philosopher to honor the memory of his friend...his bro...Dan.
