Storyboard Text

  • Leiyla ran to her friend Jake to complain about her situation. “Jake, I don’t think Leiyla likes me, she’s so mean to me.” Jake looked at her confused “Maya? But she’s so nice.” “Well not to me!” Leiyla cried Jake thought for a moment before asking “Have you tried being a gentle friend?” “Of course I’ve been gentle!” Leiyla said “I gave her a hug and told her about princesses and I’ve been super nice.” ‘What if Maya doesn't like hugs? Have you thought of that?” Jake asked “Well, no. Who doesn't like hugs?” Leiyla asked.
  • “A Lot of people don't, Maya is very shy so you have to be an extra gentle friend. Some people have different boundaries.” Jake explained “What are boundaries?” Leiyla asked, “A boundary is like the invisible line between things you're comfortable with and things you arent and everyone has different ones.” Leiyla was quiet for a moment. . She realized she had never taken the time to ask Maya what she was comfortable with. “Thank you Jake!” Leiyla said “I'll talk to Maya tomorrow.”
  • The next day, Leiyla went up to Maya gently and talked to her. She found out that Maya indeed did not like hugs or loud noises, they made her nervous. She found out that maya preferred high fives over hugs and dinosaurs over princesses. Maya told her that she was very shy but liked to talk once she warmed up to someone. Leiyla apologized for not being a gentle friend and taking the time to learn about Maya’s boundaries or interests and Maya forgave her.

  • Soon, Maya and Leiyla became the best of friends and played together everyday during play time. They would play dinosaurs and talk about books. Overtime they were inseparable. They had play dates, went to the movies, and even went to the carnival. They practically did everything together. Everything except talk about princesses, of course.
