"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."
"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment." Seems pretty straight forward and fair right? Seems like it should be easy to maintain and enforce right? Well then why is there still unfair treatment and punishment among the US today? Let's have a look at what happens on a daily basis here in America.
Here you see a police officer shouting at a black man. You must be thinking what did he do to get in trouble? The black man did nothing, he was simply walking down the street. The police officer saw him and wanted to arrest him for the sole reason of him being a POC. This is an example of a racial inequality.
" Get on the ground!!"
Sadly situations like this happen every single day. Take the Elijah McClain case for example. Elijah was a 23 year old African-American who was killed after being placed in a chokehold by a police officer and being sedated by paramedics, this led him to go into cardiac arrest. Elijah was doing nothing but walking home after going to the store.
Can you see how this completely contradicts Article 5 of The Declaration of Human Rights?
