Storyboard Text

  • Hello students! I am Mrs. Gonzales. I am going to explain you guys the unification of Germany.
  • Otto Von Bismarck was a pro-monarchy and had conservative  views. Bismarck believed war was a great thing and provokes   three, short, decisive wars over seven years against Denmark,  Austria, and France, aligned the smaller German states behind Prussia in its defeat of defeat. He wanted to expand Prussian     power and promote the idea of a Prussian-dominated Germany.
  • It all started by a Prussian politician, Otto von Bismarck in the 1860s.
  • With all the territories now in Prussian control and its borders secure, Bismarck declared the German empire.
  • On the bitterly cold morning of 18 January 1871, an assembly comprising the princes of the German states, representatives of the army, important Prussian ministers including the chief minister Otto von Bismarck gathered in the unheated Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles to proclaim the new German Empire headed by Kaiser William I of Prussia.
  • In January 1871, the Prussian king, William I, was proclaimed German Emperor in a ceremony held at Versailles.
  • I hope you guys enjoyed listening the the story. Thank you for being such a great audience!
  • The unification or nation-building process in Germany had demonstrated the dominance of Prussian state power. Prussian measures and practices often became a model for the rest of Germany.
