- Cancer is caused by uncontrolled cell growth. The cells that aren't normal divide and create tumors. They can spread throughout the body and slowly destroy good cells and tissues making theperson sick. There are many diseases called cancer. Cancer happens when the genes in a cell that regulates cell growth are somehow altered or mutated. It takes a number of mutations to make the cell dangerous. Cells are smart enough to get rid of mutations. They have theirown way of safeguarding and killing the bad cells.
- Okay, but what are the symptoms?
- A sore that doesn't heal or get better like normal. A change in the size, shape, color, or thickness of a moleor other sore. Difficulty in swallowing or a constant upset stomach. Change in bladder or bowelhabits. Any type of constant or unusual bleeding. Any thick lump or growth.
- What are the treatments?
- • Surgery, to physically remove the cancer. In some cases the tumor can be safely removed.Or Chemotherapy, to target cells that divide rapidly, which is common to most cancer cells. Unfortunately, chemotherapy can have harsh side effects.• Radiation uses high-energy waves to destroy cancer cells.
