  • Renee is a clinical Social Worker that provides counselling to people who want to improve their mental health.

  • Chance was referred to Renee by her Addiction counselor, Faith.

  • Remembering that research standpoint shapes the understanding of an issue made Renee aware of whose voice is being heard in the research.
  • Understanding what this may represent to Chance prompted Renee to be transparent about position, power, and privilege and offer allyship in ongoing social injustices.
  • My own social location is built on the power of imperial domination and the privileges that were granted to occupying colonial settlers.
  • Allyship, decolonization, and education
  • Chance has been impacted by oppressive colonial structures that caused her to be marginalized and suffer discrimination.
  • Renee also used Attachment Theory to help Chance understand the ruptures in her family relationships.
  • Chance began to understand her childhood through a different perspective.
  • Going for walks on breaks served as a positive way for Renee to cope with the distressing content in Chance's story.
  • Chance needed a continuum of support once this service was completed, but there was risk that wouldnt be there.
