Storyboard Text

  • The 1st Continental Congress
  • All colonies should boycott the acts, they need to be stopped soon and it'll get our point across to the Parliament. I think we should mail a polite letter to the King too, so we don't lose his respect.
  • Nothing is going to stop the King, this is pointless! He's too powerful.
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord
  • If you can win this then you can be independent!
  • Let us be independent! You cannot control us like this anymore!
  • The 2nd Continental Congress
  • I think all colonies should come together as a Continental Army. George Washington is a fit leader for this job and we should have him become the commander.
  • We should leave things the way they are. Coming together won't do us any good.
  • In September of 1774, about 50 leaders from 12 colonies met in Philadelphia. Together they agreed that they should boycott British goods until the Intolerable Acts were repealed and they agreed to send a respectful message to King George.
  • King George decided that blows would decide whether the colonies would become independent or not. Therefore, the king’s commander of the British troops in the colonies, General Gage, first struck at Lexington to seize the colonists weapons. Here the British defeated the colonists, and they then moved onto Concord. In Concord the colonists piled up gun carriages and set them on fire instead of hiding them like the British expected. The colonists defeated the British in Concord.
  • On May 10 of 1775 the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia. At this meeting the delegates agreed to create a Continental Army. They elected Washington to be commander in chief in this newarmy.
