- Soil is our life support system. It provide anchorage of roots, hold water and nutrients. Soils are myriad home to microorganisms that fix nitrogen and decompose organic matter. It plays a vital role in the Earth's ecosystem; it provides man with some essential construction and manufacturing materials and it also presents a record of past environmental conditions.

- However, land degradation affected the people and ecosystems throughout the planet and is both affected by climate change and contributes to it.
- Hey there! Did you know about the recent issue regarding land degradation that circulate about the entire community? I just knew it a while ago.
- Yes! I knew about it, and guess what? They say there are many activities that causes land degradation.
- DEFORESTATION
- Forests play an important role in maintaining fertility of soil by shedding their leaves which contain many nutrients. Therefore, cutting forests will affect the soil adversely.
- EXCESSIVE USE OF FERTILIZER & PESTICIDES
- The excessive use of fertilizers is causing an imbalance in the quality of certain nutrients in the soil. This imbalance adversely affects the vegetation.
