- Hi Jason, what's up? Why did you call me here so desperately?
- Steph! Look at this sick vehicle I got. Let's take it for a ride and let's go through the Earth's layers!
- This here, is the crust. It is the outermost layer of the Earth. It is from 5 to 70 km thick. It is the thinnest layer!
- This layer is composed by solid materials like rocks and aluminium.
- Woahhh! What is this place?
- This is amazing Jayson!
- I saw in school that this feels thick and liquid , solid and viscous, almost like honey.
- Steph, I present to you, the mantle! It is the second layer of the Earth. The mantle is from 670 km to 2900 km thick.
- I also saw that this layer is made of dense iron, magnesium and silicon.
- The temperatures here goes from 400 degrees celsius to a shocking 4000 degrees celsius. Good thing we have this UFO, haha! The pressure here is higher than the crust.
- Heat here transfers through convection currents. Convection currents are heat driven cycles that occur in the mantle, When the density is less, heat goes up, then when the density is high it becomes cool and goes down and then the cycle repeats.
