- I grew up in a rural farm town, where it was FAR from assumed that high school graduates were college bound. My parents had not attended college. Two of my three brothers had not attended college. But school, to me, was everything. It was where I thrived. So there was NEVER a question as to whether I would go.College, for me, was a 100% certainty.
- Given my deep affection for school, it might be surprising to know that I appled to ONLY ONE institution: Indiana University. And my reason?My father LOVED IU basketball. And Coach Bobby Knight, in particular. I'm not proud of this, but the truth is... I never once considered attending anywhere else. But I definitely should have...
- It very quickly became clear that IU was not a good fit for me. I clawed my way through my freshman year and when it was over, I transferred to Butler University, a small, private college closer (but not too close) to my home. The classes were smaller, the professors were engaged, and the Bulldog mascot was adorable. Those were factors but also, if I'm honest... my boyfriend attended there.Anyway, it was a VERY good decision, and I fared much better at Butler!!
