I know but do you see the house we got to save and save to move out of this horrible house
Mom please do we have to go to the factory
Familys that worked in factorys lived in teniments. Teniments were apartments built for factory workers to live in. These homes were low quality and bad to live in. These homes were shared with many familys and was often over crowded.

Low wages
But you haven't paid us in 2 weeks
Be grateful i even pay you delinquents
thanks sir
Wages for factory workers were horrible. Men got 10-15 shillings a week. Women would get 5-8, a children would get 1. these kids would put in so much work to get paid nothing. Not even enough to help with family needs.

Unsafe work
I hurt my arm again on the belt
You're fine keep working
Children often worked with dangerous Machinery. Not using safe precautionseither. Most kids didn't have the money for nice clothes so worked in old torn up ones. Even more common was kids not wearing shoes while they worked because they couldn't afford them.

Supervisors
What are you doing in here?? Did i say you could stop working? No!!
I'm sorry sir, i just needed a break
Children never got breaks ever. If they did go on break their supervisors would find out. Often children not on task would be beaten or whipped if not working. One of the many reasons children never wanted to work.

Coal mines
Your fine kid keep working,
*Cough, Cough, Cough*I don't feel so good
Young boys worked in the coal mines at very young ages. It was horrible for their health. Lung diseases were a effect of working in these conditions. Bad gases also would invade the coal mines and effect the workers.

Flood!! Everyone out now!!
Coal mines were one of the most dangerous jobs. Floods were another crazy event that can happen. Or the workers had to worry about cave ins. Imagine little kids having to worry about these scary things that could happen. working in the mines was extremely dangerous.
